Stories about jacob in the bible begin at genesis 25:19.

After wrestling with god, jacob’s name was changed to israel, meaning ‘one who struggles with god’

Jacob plays a central role in many famous bible stories Jacob (yaakov in hebrew) was the third and final of the jewish patriarchs Jacob lived in the land of canaan, haran, and egypt Unlike abraham and isaac, jacob’s entire family remained righteous—his 12 sons became the 12 tribes of israel, the shevatim.

Before dying, jacob blessed his sons and asked to be buried alongside his ancestors Jacob’s story teaches us about the importance of faith, personal transformation, and forgiveness. Jacob is sometimes used also as a representative of the nation that bears his name Israel is the “house of jacob” (luke 1:33)
